We know the prejudices, that stick to products that either stem from certified organic argriculture or from Fair Trade, well enough. And we are sufficiently confident, to sweep them off the table with convincing facts. Tests made by customer-protection-organisations ultimately prove again and again, that the quality of organically grown stable and luxury foods are usually better than those from agro-industrial production. This applies to criteria like aroma and taste as well as pesticide-residue or traces of genetically manipulated raw materials. And market-researchers as well have come by now to the conclusion, that more and more consumers strongly prefer products, that distinguish themselves from industrially mass-produced goods. Untroubled consumption is one side of the matter. Connecting this enjoyment with the pleasant feeling of having done something good to someone else – with Fair Trade, this becomes reality in an almost perfect way. The bottom line is, that the price difference we pay at the till is more than justified by the superior overall quality. But for the small farmer-families, these couple of cents per package can mean the difference between hopelessness and a secure future. Many international star-chefs, hobby-gourmets and family-coddlers specifically buy organic products for good reasons. Fairly Traded, they also improve the future-perspectives of the farmer-families, that have cultivated them with great dedication and skill. |
