Organic farming of foods and luxury articles is one of the most important building-blocks for sustainable development – both in the industrialised countries as well as in the so-called Third World. But the producers can only successfully follow this way and secure a life in dignity for their children, if they regularly receive a Fair Price for their organic products. By now, a number of different environmental-, bio- and Fair Trade-seals exist, that unfortunately not always meet the same high standards for quality. Since many years, recognized organisations have become subject to the competition of new label-initiatives, that are often the products of large transnational corporations. Left behind is not only the credibility of a good idea. What is also left behind is the guideline for the consumers. But especially left behind are the millions of small farmer-families in the North as well as in the South, because their whole existence depends on receiving the valuation they deserve for their high-quality products on the market. Naturally, our small initiative Trust Organic Small Farmers cannot annul all the rules, that are valid on the world-market and serve only the pure maximization of profit. We can make a point that it may be different. This is why we want to unite the interests of all those, who do not possess a great market-power and big advertising-budgets. Often, our members’ only capital is their social and ecological dedication. Reason enough, to collectively highlight this competitive edge. Shopping specifically for products, that have been organically grown and Fairly traded, does not mean dispensing with quality. But it means making a definite contribution for a sustainable future in our One World. |
