Especially in the Third World, organic methods of production are of vital importance for millions of farmer-families.

Because organic agriculture

• prevents destructive exploitation of the ecology and encourages sustainable development of the rural regions.
  
  
• reduces the dangers for health in farming, especially for children, pregnant women and illiterates (for example through the improper use of pesticides)
  
  
• advances financial independence from export-products through the integrated cultivation of staple foods and thus makes an important contribution to fighting poverty.
  
  
• improves the efficiency as well as the quality, because organic farming often instructs small family-farmers for the first time in systematic and adapted field work and plant-cultivation. (such as compost as fertiliser, biological pest control, etc. )
